Staying with Comcast (for now)

I was supposed to have AT&T U-verse installed today, but I decided last week to cancel the installation, and stay with Comcast for the time being. It turns out I might be moving in the near future (a long story, which I won't get into here), so the new plan is to install U-verse at the new location, and keep Comcast where I am now. If it turns out I don't move, I'll make the switch to AT&T here.

Since my previous Comcast promotional rate ended last month, I called Mary in the Executive Support Office, who I spoke with two-and-a-half weeks ago (see my previous posting). Mary made good on her previous offer to give me the promotional rate that I had been promised in a mailing, but was unable to get initially, which is what started this whole thing. She made the change retroactive to when my previous promotion ended. With the new promotion, I'll be paying about the same as I was before, except now I'll have HBO.

I asked Mary about my internet speed under the old and new promotional packages. She said I'm supposed to get (up to) 8 Mbps download speeds, but when I run a speed test (for example, http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-speed-test), it usually reports between 2-3 Mbps -- I'm not sure what to make of that. For Comcast, I'm not paying for a particular speed, but AT&T U-verse offers different speeds for different prices, so it would be good to be able to verify you're getting what you pay for.
